President Sally’s Prose

Wednesday, May 28, Darrel went to school!  No, he didn't have to go to the principal's office - he was giving out Optimist awards!  We honored 2 eighth graders for their volunteerism throughout the 2007-2008 school year.  The recipients of a certificate of appreciation and savings bonds were Patrick Chaney, (85 hours volunteered) received a $50.00 Savings Bond and Reegan Reece (171 hours volunteered) received a $100.00 Savings Bond.  They are a big asset to our community!  Do I see future JOOI members here?!

Just a reminder that our next meeting is a big one!  We'll be hosting the 3rd quarter Zone meeting.  For those who volunteered to pick up food, don't forget to save your receipts for reimbursement.  Plan on attending - let's show off our great club!

Also, the yard sale will be June 7 and 8!  We need your sale items (pre-priced, if possible), tables, and YOU!  The more to work, the better!  This should be a great fundraiser - thanks, George, again for allowing us the use of your home!

See you all soon - Sally

                                                               Last club meeting

Our last meeting was Tuesday, May 20, 2008. We met at the Fire Station on St Rt 4. Darrel presented a PGI chart showing all members who have started their PGI program. Darrel updated the chart. Club members are all progressing very well. Sally Schmidt, president, presented PGI level awards to several members. These were presented to Sally at the 3rd Quarter Ohio District Conference. Congratulations to those members who have achieved different levels of this program.

                                                 What is PGI?

PGI stands for “Personal Growth Involvement” and consists of 10 levels of achievement. Each level not only allows you to learn more about the Optimist Organization, it benefits the club with growth and a better Optimist member. It ALSO lets YOU, the member, to grow as a person.

If YOU have not started your PGI program card, WHY NOT?

Old Used Cell Phones: Do you have a cell phone or two lying around the house that you do not use anymore? The club is collecting them. We have a box set up at the meeting for collection. Aluminum Cans: George Frazee says he is still collecting aluminum cans. Mike Irwin has agreed to help George with this program. This recycle program has been very successful for our club, thanks to the ongoing effort of George. Please save those cans.

                                                          Garage Sale

                                                        June 6th and 7th

Our garage sale is scheduled for Saturday, June 7th and Sunday, June 8th at the home of member, George Frazee. The club not only needs sales items, but need YOU to come and work this event. We will be setting up some Friday night, June 6. We need tables and of course, SALES ITEMS. The sale begins Saturday morning at 8:00 AM and runs till 5:00PM.  The money we earn these two days go to financing the many youth projects for the year, such as, 100 Book Club, Oratorical and Essay Contests, Sport Sponsorships, Senior Scholarship and the list goes on. Without successful fundraisers, we CANNOT serve our youth of our community.

                     Something to think about

Best thing to say if you get caught sleeping at your

desk...

Raise your head slowly and say, "...in Jesus' name, Amen."

Yours in Optimism,
